Dr. Ahmed Ballo

Prosthodontics

Born in Parma, Italy, Dr. Ahmed Ballo has spent the last fifteen years studying, working, and travelling between continents.

Dr. Ballo is a Board-Certified Specialist in Prosthodontics and serves as a Clinical Professor in the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Ballo earned his specialist training, master’s degree and Diploma in Prosthodontics at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.

Dr. Ballo is the chairman of the Canadian Section of the International Team for Implantology (ITI), a globally recognized organization dedicated to advancing research, education, and best practices in dental implantology. ITI brings together top experts in the field to develop evidence-based guidelines and training for dentists worldwide. As chairperson, Dr. Ballo plays a key leadership role in shaping the direction of implant dentistry through research, education, and professional collaboration.

Dr. Ballo obtained his BDS degree in 2002 from Garyounis University. After several successful years in private practice, he moved to Finland to pursue further postgraduate education. He received the PhD degree as well as clinical training in implantology as an International Team for Implantology (ITI) scholar in 2008 from the University of Turku, Finland. Following this, from 2008-2012, he became a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Gothenburg and completed an Externship in implant dentistry at Brånemark Clinic in Gothenburg, Sweden.

In 2012, he moved to Vancouver and became a Clinical Assistant Professor at the UBC Faculty of Dentistry. In recognition of his excellent contribution to UBC undergraduate dental students’ education, he has received three consecutive teaching awards for the academic year 2014, 2015, and 2016, an exceptionally remarkable achievement given his short time at UBC.

Dr. Ballo is a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology, and a member of the Canadian Dental Association, Dental Specialists Society of British Columbia, British Columbia Society of Prosthodontics, British Columbia Dental Association, and American College of Prosthodontist. Dr. Ballo is the director of the Vancouver Digital ITI Study Club, provides comprehensive training in digital and implant dentistry.

A widely published and internationally respected clinician and lecturer, Dr. Ballo’s main focus within clinical practice, teaching, and research is esthetic and implant dentistry, as well as the implementation of cutting-edge digital technologies in complex implant oral rehabilitation.

Dr. Ballo has published more than 50 scientific papers, book chapters and authored a textbook in the field of implant dentistry and related research, and his excellence has been recognized with multiple prestigious awards and honours, including Dr. Donald Brunette Award in Dentistry, Dr. S. Wah Leung Award, and European Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering Award.

Registered Dental Hygienist

Maria has worked in the dental field since 2011 as a dental assistant. She went back to school and graduated from Vancouver Community College as a registered dental hygienist in 2017. Maria loves teaching people about their oral health and helping them find their healthiest, most beautiful smiles. When she’s not working at the office she spends time with her daughter in the garden or biking around town. Maria is also passionate about cooking and baking beautiful cakes for her family and friends.

Isabelle Campos is a registered dental hygienist passionate about oral care and health promotion. Having graduated as a dentist in Brazil in 2006, she honed her skills and expertise in the field while working diligently for 14 years.

In 2019, she embarked on an exciting journey to Canada, where she realized her true passion lies in providing oral health promotion and preventive care. Motivated to continue her pursuit of excellence in this domain, she completed her Dental Hygiene College education and successfully passed the National Dental Hygiene Certification Board Exam, allowing her to embrace her mindful practice as a dental hygienist. Her years of experience in dentistry and a profound understanding of oral health bring a unique perspective to her practice, focusing on preventive measures to ensure optimal oral well-being.

Outside of her professional life, she enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends. Balancing work and personal life is essential to her, and she believes that a well-rounded life positively impacts the care she provides to her patients.

Bahareh became a dental assistant in 1998 while she lived in Iran. She moved to Canada in 2012 and started working as a chair-side dental assistant.
